Lindner Prussian Daly 10ga Diamond Grade with stunning engraving and wood. Hammerguns 10 gauge |

A stunning example of the Linder Diamond grades. We seldom see them in hammer guns. They never fail to take my breath away. *This gun has super bright bores and is tight on face. The firing pins are gold plated! The original horn butt has the Daly logo let into it. The Damascus is the most beautiful you will ever see. What a gun! |

W. C. Scott & Son 10g. Sidelever Hammer double ~ A gunsmith special or just pretty as is for display over the hunting lodge fireplace? Hammerguns 10 gauge |
5503 16571 |
|
Gunsmith special or a great English double for over the rock fireplace in the lodge. This gun needs to be rejoined (tightening of the barrels to the action) and a repairable bulge removed from the right barrel 15" from the breech. The left firing pin needs to be replaced as it appears short. There is good wall thickness but there is pitting in the bores. All and all nothing that cannot be done but will take time and money unless one does the work him or herself. *This was originally a very fine gun and would be worth restoring in my opinion. My estimate for this work would roughly be 1K but this would not include a re-browning of the barrels. *The positives are that the side lever action retains 50% original case color on the locks and all the engraving is sharp and of high quality. |

Purdey top lever Island lock ~ No cast so ok for the right handed or left handed shooter! Hammerguns 12 gauge |
5125 8273 |
|
This find Purdey dates from 1870 and was sleeved in modern times which has allowed it to become a very shootable and functional piece of history at an affordable price. *If you are unfamiliar with the term "Island Lock" take a look at the right hand or left-hand lock on this shotgun and you will note that the stock wood goes all the way around the lock, thus making the lock an "island" of steel in wood. Purdey is well known with this feature, but I have seen other English makers do this also, possibly copying Purdey. |

This is a really cool English double barrel by a rather obscure maker. The barrels have been expertly sleeved with Damascus barrels and then nitro proofed. They measured up and ring extremely well and are bright with no pitting. They have excellent wall thickness. The gun locks up tight. What I find most interesting and appreciate is the self retracting firing pins with rebounding hammers. See the pictures. The firing pin is actually connected to the hammer. I really like this! *Note the modern dimensions, excellent engraving, and nice wood. |

J. D. Dougall .577 Lock-Fast patent double rifle with makers case, tools and a reference to the Prince of Wales bed chamber........... Hammerguns Caliber |
5333 3465 |
|
A very historic, but also very shootable Dougal Lockfast. The case is inscribed for 'Lord Suffield'. Charles Harbord, 5th Baron Suffield was appointed Lord of the Bedchamber to Edward, Prince of Wales (to become King Edward VII), to whom he was a close friend. Lord of the bedchamber??? Is that for real??? He later was chief of staff to the Prince of Wales during the Prince's expedition to India in 1875–1876. The 3-feather insignia of the Prince of Wales is engraved between the hammers of the rifle. The inscription on the rib helps us to place the year of manufacture to 1873 or 1874, so the rifle was no doubt ordered for this trip. The Oval is engraved with the family crest and motto. *Lord of the Bedchamber is an ancient appointment to the Monarch, basically in modern speak, he would be a confidante of the Monarch , A trusted friend, and his role originally was to help dress the Monarch, guarding access to his bedchamber ,generally waiting on him. The main role was to be a friend. Lord Suffield was Master of the Robes at the coronation of Edward V11 in 1902. He married firstly Cecilia Annetta Baring (of the banking family) in 1854. in 1911 following her death he married again. He owned 12000 acres in Norfolk (Gunton Park). Lord Suffield 5th Baron died in 1914 The family crest was a shield with ermine crown on top and the family motto was Aequanimiter ..obviously Latin …for "Even Minded" The bores are extremely good (excellent) with very strong rifling. Some pitting around the breach and extractor. The wide rear V-notch sight is inlaid with a platinum pointer. Along with the expected stocking safeties there is an unusual lever safety which locks the trigger. We haven't seen this before. The gun has had some stock work done over the years. There is a rather obvious but vintage and effective stock repair to a very old split in front of the sling swivel. The leather cheek piece could very well be original. The vintage horn and Silvers recoil pad may one day require some more attention. The case itself retains its original case label, charge label, and contains an excellent array of tools and accessories including the proper bullet mold. These also include a chamber brush and oil bottle by Hawksley, a priming tool by W. Bartram, and powder measure among others. A fine piece of British history that would make an excellent addition to any collection. *The Lord of the bedchamber is a very old title first used in 1718. This involved assisting the monarch in dressing, waiting on him while he ate, and guarding access to his bed chamber. Holders of this position were considered to be extremely close and trusted confidants. In the later 1800s this position evolved to mean more as the position evolved to become quite powerful. |

Mortimer & Son Double Rifle from Scotland ~ A bit of a project but well worth the effort and priced right! Hammerguns Caliber |
5389 NVN |
|
This is a classic BPE double rifle from Scotland. The rifling is quite strong but near the chambers there is pitting but cleans up to very nice toward the muzzle. I believe this rifle will shoot extremely well. The forend is missing its horn and the sights are missing the two folding behind the main sight. The gun is slighty off face so does need a rejoin soon. |

Boss & Co. with lovely rounded action ~ Completed June 10 1903 for Lord Savile Hammerless Sidelocks 12 gauge |
5674 5044 |
|
Boss records tell us this fine Boss is a radiused action Boss single trigger completed in London for Lord Savile on June 10 1903.
The stock is carved from the most beautifully figured walnut with a Best London finish. The number '4' inlaid in gold on the top lever and forend. Someone had a set of 4 Boss guns made?! They must have shot very fast or had some lucky friends. The bores are clean and shiny, the ejectors are strong. A Best London gun ready for yet another lifetime in the field. Some history of Lord Savile: John Lumley-Savile, 2nd Baron Savile Savile-Lumley was the son of the Rev. Frederick Savile-Lumley, Rector of Bilsthorpe, and nephew of John Savile (1818–1896). The latter was raised to the peerage in 1888 as Baron Savile, of Rufford in the County of Nottingham, with remainder to his nephew John Savile-Lumley (later Lumley-Savile). Lord Savile died in November 1896, aged 78 and was succeeded in the Barony, according to the special remainder, by his nephew John Savile Lumley-Savile, 2nd Baron Savile, who in 1898 assumed by royal license the name of Savile after Lumley.[1] After education at Eton, Savile-Lumley joined Her Majesty's Diplomatic Service. He was nominated Attaché at Brussels in 1874, became 2nd Secretary in Athens in 1879, exchanged into the Foreign Office in 1881, and retired in 1889. In the early 1900s he owned about 33,900 acres, comprising the family estates in Nottinghamshire and the West Riding of Yorkshire. He enjoyed shooting, fishing, and golf,[4] and often entertained Edward VII at his principal seat, Rufford Abbey.[5] He was a Justice of the Peace for Nottinghamshire and in 1904 was made KCVO.[4] He married in 1894 but his first wife died in 1912 without issue. He married for the second time in 1916; the marriage produced George Halifax Lumley-Savile, heir to the title.[6] Henry Lumley-Savile (1923–2001) was the younger son from the marriage.[7] He died on 3 April 1931 at Rufford Abbey. |

Boss & Co "Best" from between the wars ~ A nice long stocked Boss with...... Hammerless Sidelocks 12 gauge |

This Boss is from between the wars., approximately in1927. Many consider Boss guns built during this period to be the finest London guns every built. Our gun is a perfect example. This gun features a prince of Wales stock which is my personal favorite as it is so ergonomic to carry in the field. My personal Woodward 16 has the exact same style of stock. *The long LOP is not for everybody so remember we can shorten this gun down ending with a proper checkered butt to your personal LOP for only $200.00. |

John Dickson high grade round action from 1897 ~ Nitro proofed but from 1897 so we can ship direct ~ makers case Hammerless Sidelocks 12 gauge |
5631 4914 |
|
Delivered as No. 1 of pair on 6th August 1897 to Edward Hunter Blair of Dunskey, 6th Baronet. It would be interesting to research him. What strikes me about this immediately is the beauty, almost overwhelming. I am certainly attracted to the smokey and mysterious dark and elegant wood. When I pull my eyes away from the wood the perfect proportions present themselves to only be pulled into the fine and stunning engraving. *The dimensions are great for many Americans being near what we all grew up with , 1.5" at comb, and 2.5" at heel. The dimensions almost all American double guns were built too so this gun will automatically feel familiar to many of us and are likely to shoot very well. |

James Purdey from 1901 ~ Great dimensions for those of with typical dimensions! 30" barrels and O&L cased Hammerless Sidelocks 12 gauge |
5521 17371 |

If you are looking for a no nonsense, high condition, Purdey for a fair price it is your day as this is the gun for you. This gun is tight, sound, and has been well cared for and will certainly provide many years of enjoyable use. With proper care, Purdey's don't wear down, they get handed down. We have priced this Purdey extremely attractively and if you see one of our competitors has one for 10K more know there is a 90% chance ours is as good a gun or better than theirs. *The photo's for some reason (the bright harsh lights I think) make the sidelocks look polished and super bright. In person they are not that way at all. We will attempt so new pictures soon. |

James Purdey & Sons 12 bore Game Gun formally owned by prestigious gundog author Ben "O" Williams Hammerless Sidelocks 12 gauge |
5470 12656 |
|
Completed in 1887 this fine Purdey is field ready and still holds the handling marks from all the experiance that Ben O Williams gave it when he owned and hunted with this gun. The choking is Ben's preferred constrictions, by coincidence (or maybe not as Ben has had a huge influence on my hunting )the same as mine for upland! My esteemed close friend and helper Jason Bartel at the Great Northern shoot a few weeks ago picked this gun off the table there and shot the main event, putting over a case and a half shells through it. He proclaimed it did not even have one hickup and gave him a very high score. He would like to have the gun but alas he has four children which are not even near college age yet so is not a place to purchase it. If you would like to buy this for Jason, I am sure he would forever be in your debt or perhaps if you purchase you could let him use it once in a while. All kidding aside, this is a very nice vintage Purdey with great providence and proof of present and excellent reference for future reliability in the field. There is a story from a past issue of Covey Rise which features this fine double. I am in the process of getting a copy. *In the interest in disclosing all information on this gun, when we got it there was a hairline crack going with the grain on the left side mid-stock. It stopped after about 3". We successfully invisibly repaired it and it obviously is holding up as with Jasons 300 plus shells through it, it is holding strong. |

Churchill Premier ~ Highest grade from 1924 ~ What a super light instinctive upland gun this would make! Hammerless Sidelocks 12 gauge |
5527 2940 |
|
The Premier grade is Churchills highest honor. It is an unusually crafted sidelock as the internal lock pins (screws in American terms) do not show on the outside of the locks like found on most all the other English guns. This takes considerably more time and skill to achieve.
Internally the locks are crafted as beautiful as any Swiss watch. In its original makers case this fine shotgun would make a superb upland gun. I personally would open the right barrel to skeet and it would be ready to go! We can get this done for only $85.00 and quickly. |

Churchill had a way to strike their shorter barreled guns so you feel like you're swinging a well-balanced 30" gun but with more speed or fluidity. I really think it is magic. James Purdey & Sons with Connections to Frank Sinatra! Made in 1887 so can ship direct! Sale! Hammerless Sidelocks 12 gauge |
5406 12571 |
|
This gun has an interesting story that the gun was owned by Frank Sinatra and Frank Pachmayr modified the gun for him so he could shoot better. The son of the last owner relayed to me that his father was sold this gun by Frank Pachmayr and was relayed this story by him when he purchased it. Sinatra was not known to be a particularly good shot. The shortened barrels, open chokes, vent rib, and beavertail forend lend credence to this story. Unfortunately, we have so far not been able to document this history, but the last owner certainly believed it. It is well documented that Frank Pachmayr had many Hollywood stars for customers. *The gun is set up for Skeet with its very straight stock and skeet chokes. The LOP could be made up to 14 1/2" if a pad were added. *We have priced this gun based only on the gun's features, so we are not charging a dime for the verbal history that goes with it. If you believe you could help me document the story, I would really appreciate it as I am a huge Sinatra fan and would keep the gun and use it for myself! I keep an autographed fan photo of Sinatra in my office which is by me now as I am writing about this gun. *This gun was made in 1887 so we can ship direct! |

Great dimensions, best quality engraving, and a long stock are found on this London "Best" from between the great wars (1931). This gun belonged to an old friend who I hunted alongside for years while he proudly carried this super sidelock. It never let him down and I saw many a wild eastern Oregon rooster fall dead to its charms. *See the gold crown on the bottom of the receiver. This indicates the gun is their high "Imperial" grade. |

J. J. Reeb Hofbuchsenmacher Bonn Rhein ~ This is considered a German Master Work ~ Check out the engraving ~ 2 3/4" proofed! Hammerless Sidelocks 12 gauge |

Stunning engraving and craftsmanship on this prewar II work of gun art. Take a close look at the engraving in our pictures and then blow them up. The engraving just gets better and better! I knew George Reeb who had a fascinating business of restoring jet aircraft and putting them back into service like new. He collected the Reeb guns of his ancestors and had accumulated a magnificent collection as Reeb guns were known for being of the highest quality with ornamentation. I wonder what became of his collection? It is obviously possible this is a gun he owned at one time and was a part of his collection. He left us many years ago, a close friend to Bob Jones, my mentor., also long past. This fine shotgun features a single select Miller trigger and note it is proofed for 2 3/4" shells. |

William Powell 12g Sidelock Ejector with original Powell case Hammerless Sidelocks 12 gauge |

A very nice side lock ejector from between the wars. Powell records show this gun was built for a Capt. H. Wykeham 11 August 1919 . The gun is tight in excellent condition and needs nothing. *Note the choking which will put many birds in your game bag. This is almost the exact choking I use in my favorite game gun and gets excellent results and to be honest, I am a mediocre shot at best. |

Charles Hellis ~ Almost like new and made in 1938 ~ Light! Hammerless Sidelocks 12 gauge |
5314 4190 |
|
I believe all the case colors and barrel black and stock finish are all original on this light little sidelock even though it dates from 1938. The dimensions are great for many and if was one to open the left choke some it would make an ideal upland bird gun. We can arrange to have this done for only $85.00 and can be done in three weeks or less! *Note the rolled trigger guard and the locks featuring cocking indicators. This gun obviously has not seen a lot of use in its life and is a super value for a true between the wars London sidelock. |

This is a screaming deal on a London BEST! The barrels are nitro proofed blued Damascus. It would be a visual pleasure to have these barrels browned for pattern. The wood is exceptional, and I love the way it is dead straight in the wrist but then turns down in the toe. Stock makers dream about finding wood as good as this! *I was just reviewing the data, and I said out loud to my coworkers "This gun has super dimensions for many." *Dates to 1896 so no ffl required, we can ship direct! |

Joseph Lang London Sidelock with wonderful wood and dimensions ~ Recently competed in the Great Northern SxS event! Hammerless Sidelocks 12 gauge |
4793 16773 |
|
A beautiful high-grade London sidelock with tight and excellent steel barrels and stunning wood. Need I say more? This gun has near perfect choking for most wild bird upland hunting. Normally this gun would be in the 6-8K range but due to some very minor surface pitting in places on the action (see the pictures, super minor) we can offer this beauty for only 4600.00. A super London high grade sidelock at almost a boxlock price. For the hunter that wants a high-quality gun that he or she is not afraid to take in the field this is a super opportunity. The gun is super tight and field ready. After seeing my write up on this gun received this email from our famous hunting/naturalist gun writer friend concerning this gun: "Wow Kirby, What a beautiful gun. I love Lang guns. You forgot to mention in the write up that it is stocked to the fences and has absolutely perfect chokes for a game gun. Cheers, George" *At the recent Great Northern SxS event in WI, Travis, our gun photographer used this gun in the main event. He fired 375 rounds through the gun with out even the slightest hiccup. He said the gun felt deceptively light for its weight due to its exceptional balance and shot extremely well. |

Henry Atkin Raleigh Model Sidelock ~ 6 lbs. 7 oz. and perfectly balanced Hammerless Sidelocks 12 gauge |
5266 2181 |

This fine Atkin dates from @ 1902 only the beginning of the Edwardian era where driven shooting became the rage of the elite. It was during this period the London gunmakers competed to produce some of the finest shotguns ever built. Their craftsmanship obviously shows in our example. Henry Atkin Sr. worked for Purdey's from 1814 for over 50 years and the younger apprenticed with them for 10 to then open his own shop in 1877. His guns often said on the rib "formerly of James Purdey."

This stunning sidelock dates from 1896 so we can ship direct. The stock is very long for some professional basketball player I am sure, but if you don't play for the NBA we can fix that easy enough by removing the stock extension and arranging for a butt plate or recoil pad made to your length of pull. The leather cheek piece is authentic and in very good condition. I have shot with these before and found them wonderful! Powell records tell us: No,10183. - John Brigg 11 December 1896 *Things you are going to ask: The gun is tight on face and the bores are excellent, bright and shiny. Trigger pulls are crisp, and the ejectors work great and are in time. The wood is sound and lovely. I see no cracks or distressed areas. *Overall a wonderful example of a Powell from the 1890's with lots of life left in her! |

Holland records show this gun to be from 1934 as number one of a pair. The mystery, while the gun in near everyway meets the measurements from the Holland ledger, there is no makers name or engraving on the gun. The self-opening mechanism is the patent H&H system and the best quality locks are signed Joseph Brazier, Ashes, the exact top grade lock maker Holland used at the period. *This gun has excellent dimensions and balance for many. Expertly sleeved in the UK and the mystery of the lack of engraving or name allows an opportunity for one to shoot a top-level gun at a very attractive price. William Evans Side lock with excellent wood and dimensions and a super price! Hammerless Sidelocks 12 gauge |
4750 6906 |
|
Manufactured 1906 this beautiful sidelock is in very nice honest condition. Tight with American dimensions. Yes! The wood is as beautiful as it looks in the pictures!~ *This gun was proofed in both barrels at 12 which means it is in proof between .730 and .740. It currently measures .730 right and .731 left which tells us something we seldom see. This gun incredibly is still at the original bore diameter from when the gun was proofed 120 years ago. It has never seen a polishing. This is a great thing! *The locks of this gun are of BEST design featuring safety sears. The firing pins are bushed also. This is something you generally only see in the high-grade guns. |

Army & Navy 12ga Sidelock ~ A super W.C. Scott built sidelock Hammerless Sidelocks 12 gauge |

This is a very nice English between the wars (~1927) sidelock for a super price. Don't be put off the by the extension or the long length of pull as we can remove the extension and have a checkered butt done or a pad added instead of the extension for a very nominal charge to achieve a LOP that will work for you. This gun being near 100 years old and still retain over 50% original case color is remarkable. It handles well and is tight on face with excellent bores. *Note the excellent choking for upland birds which I will guarantee will put more birds in your bag! |

William Evans Sidelock with long stock and great dimensions. ~ high grade wood! Hammerless Sidelocks 12 gauge |
5269 4842 |
|
This classic William Evans was completed in 1900. It has gorgeous wood and great dimensions. There is some light pitting towards the muzzle but does not appear deep. The gun is tight and appears field ready. There is a very small sliver of wood on the right edge of the forend that is missing. This could be rebuilt. We do that here but the cost to repair would be $200.00 Overall, this gun is ready to use as is or with some light restoration could be a real showstopper. We are pricing it very attractively in the as is condition. Most Evans sidelocks are in the 4-8K range. The gold initial shield has a very or special family crest that would worth researching! 5376 1088 |

This is a cool and very light little gun built @ 1890. 2 3/4" but if I shot it I would shoot light loads as it weighs less than 6 lbs. *Note the great dimensions for many. *Thomas Perkes was born in Lancashire in 1849 and became well known and highly respected in the London gunmaking world throughout his adult life as an inventor. He produced many patents including a well-respected self-opening gun patent and also a very popular "Perkes Patent" ejector mechanism eventually adopted by Webley Scott. *What a fantastic little grouse, woodcock, or quail gun this would make. |

Wm. Atkinson & Sons~ Lancaster, Kendel, and Morecambe ~ A lovely 30" barreled English sidelock for a great price Hammerless Sidelocks 12 gauge |
3465 3155 |
|
This gun features nitro proofed 30" barrels with mirror bores. Other features include auto ejectors, tight on face barrels to action, and excellent modern stock dimensions cut from a very nice piece of English walnut. The left choke is tighter than many (like me) might want it but remember we can have chokes opened very reasonably. Also, if you need a longer LOP we can provide excellent English style leather covered pads up to 1". This is a very nice example of an English sidelock. It is well balanced and feels great between the hands as any well made gun should. I did not know much of this maker so I did some sleuthing on internet and actually found quite a lot: Built between 1901 and 1905 by address's on rib William Atkinson was the son of Joseph Atkinson of Lancaster. He was born in 1851. By 1871 William had joined his father in the business in Lancaster, but in about 1874 he opened his own business at 52 Stricklandgate, Kendal, Westmoreland; in about 1878 this moved to 8 All Hallows Lane. There may have been a branch of the firm in Preston. In 1874 William and his wife (Eleanor b. 1850) had a son, Joseph Harvey Atkinson, and in 1876 another, Arthur Falder Atkinson (both born in Kendal), they both worked in the business as gunmaker's assistants, there were also had two daughters born in Kendal, Edith (b.1873) and Maud (b.1878) who appear to have worked in the business. In 1881 Joseph Atkinson retired and William took over the business in Lancaster re-naming it William Atkinson. In about 1885 the firm moved to 20 Market Street, between 1890 and 1901 they took over the adjoining premises at 18 Market Street. Between 1890 and 1894 the business in Kendal moved to 58 Highgate. Joseph Atkinson died in the late 1890s, and in 1900 the firm Lancaster business was re-named William Atkinson & Sons. By this time the firm had a substantial trade in bicycles. In about 1901 a branch was opened at 11 Skipton Street, Morecambe, Lancashire. This was probably run by one of the sons, it appears to have closed in about 1905. Between 1901 and 1905 the Kendal business became known as Atkinson & Griffin, it appears to have ceased trading in 1925. Between about 1905 and 1909 the firm in Lancaster occupied premises in North Road. In about 1935 the firm moved to 26 Market Street, Lancaster, but the Lancaster business appears to have closed in 1940. In 1955 Thomas Atkinson & Sons was recorded at 19a Stricklandgate, Kendal. Thomas Atkinson was certainly related, perhaps only distantly. The firm appears to have closed in about 1985. |

Army & Navy Sidelock built by W.C. Scott ~ a well-made gun at a great price Hammerless Sidelocks 12 gauge |
3959 49538 |
|
Existing Army & Navy records show this sidelock was built in 1908 by W.C. Scott. Great dimensions and I really like how this gun opens and closes. It feels like a gun that would be appreciated in the field.
*You know this old girl has seen plenty of service and she does show some scars in handling marks in the wood and blue thinning in places. She would be a great candidate for a light restoration or used and appreciated as is. This gun I noted when first operated did not have auto ejectors. I really like this as having auto ejectors is really one more thing to go wrong and truly in the upland field unnecessary. I will get some flack over this, I am sure! I will agree to disagree. |

This gun is tight with nice bores. The ejectors are strong and well timed. The triggers crisp. A lot of gun for this kind of money. * I note this gun has bushed firing pins and heel and toe clips with a checkered butt. I cannot find records to date this gun, but the back action locks indicate a gun built in the early 1900's. The proof marks indicate the gun had new barrels made and proofed in 1969 in Birmingham. |

French "Verney Carron" Sidelock with Royal Crest on trigger guard ~ 2 3/4" nitro proofs ~ "Couronne Comtale" Hammerless Sidelocks 12 gauge |
5587 J259 |
|
This French sidelock intrigues me. It has almost no engraving but on the trigger guard there is elaborate gold intertwined initials (R within an R) with a large gold crown with many (9) points. We were taught in the trade that the more points on the crown the higher the level of royalty. This must have been owned by someone fairly high up the chain. *Assets include full and mod choking, 2 3/4" nitro proofs, high stock for rising birds, and a solid 14 3/4" length of pull. The action features bushed firing pins, ejectors, side-clips, and obviously high-quality locks. For the super tall a pad could be added to get near 15 3/4"! This gun locks up vault tight and has excellent bores. This is a super high quality sidelock for a bargain price. *A client pointed out to us that the gold crown symbol represents that the owner was a member of the French Royal court. "Couronne Comtale" *Negatives are from storage with some very fine pitting in places on the outside of the action even though it retains a good 40% original case color. |

From 1888 this classic Scott features the wonderful "Crystal Window Indicators", a flag ship at the time for W. C. Scott. They actually gold plated the side of the internal hammer so it would show up better through the window. When the hammer is fired the window is dark. So ever so clever and cool today as I am sure it was then. Only cast on ever so slight so very shootable by a right handed shot also. It could also be bent either way I suspect with ease. *You may note the minimum wall thickness is on the thin side but this is found where there is little pressure near the muzzle as demonstrated by its fairly recent reproof in London in 2005. The bores have not been modified since that reproof. |

Nice barrels on this Coggy sidelock. A high stocked gun for rising birds with a lot of cast off for a beard or broader face. Way too high for me but if it works for you this gun is a bargain. William Evans Sidelock 16g with 2 3/4" Nitro ~ light at 5 lbs. 14 oz. ~ cased Hammerless Sidelocks 16 gauge |

|
A beautiful 16ga English sidelock in very nice condition in its maker's case. This gun dates from 1925. These between the war guns are considered the very best and most desirable. The stock dimensions are great for many. If the well-matched wood extension is not wanted, we can arrange for it to be removed and replaced with an English style pad or leather covered pad. * I am really pleased to offer this great little 16 as I am finding it very hard of late to find them in the UK. They seem to be drying up! |

Hand detachable sidelocks and sideclips are extra special features on this rare gun. The sleeving job is excellent and the new stock very well done. Factory records show this gun was completed September 15 1930. *Our photographer Travis and I shot this on clays one morning recently and we both enjoyed it very much. I is certainly field ready. |

Vickers Armstrong 16g Sidelock featuring long slender 30" steel barrels Hammerless Sidelocks 16 gauge |

What a very cool 16g. sidelock! The Long barrels and great dimensions make this an upland winner. The chokes are perfect for almost any game suitable to hunt with this gun. They are the same chokes I have in my personal 16g. Woodward. You many not think you have heard of this English maker, but chances are you have if you know your WWI history. The Vickers machine gun helped win that war and our gun is by the same maker. |

Single trigger, Bushed firing pins, vent rib, and extra over the top engraving are some of the features on this fine little 20g. The other barrel sets data: Wall thickness: 26" barrels (left .030, right .028) 27" barrels (left .030, right .022) Chokes: 26" barrels (left .009 IC, right .002 skeet) 27" barrels (left .016 Mod, right .008 IC) *An incredible value in an extremely versatile small bore with 3" proofs. This means you have a huge selection of shells to choose from in a 20g. Personally, I have no use for 3" shells but just saying.... |

This super light 2" shotgun handles well. It dates from between the wars, in 1935 when the 2" gun really gained popularity. Ammunition is available! In fact, we have some we would be willing to sell you! This example is in nice condition except for some pitting on top the barrels near the rib where it meets the action. It is not bad at all but does allow us to discount this gun to a price we seldom able to offer a nice 2" gun. *The extra full chokes can be opened to anything one would want for only $85.00 a tube and only takes two weeks. |

This a true Scottish gun which was located in Ayr and then later had a shop in Kilmarnock. It was built about 1900. The scalloped frame with the reinforced frame I find very attractive. The screw above the top scallop on both sides indicates it is the highest grade boxlock which feature over hanging sears. A high-end feature. * The gun is on face and from the breech has very bright and shiny bores. |

Williams & Powell with nice wood and condition Boxlocks 12 gauge |
5263 10694 |
|
This Powell has great bores and locks up like a vault. Stocked fairly high for the shooter that likes to cheek hard their gun (as they are teaching us to shoot today).
The wood is very nice and in great condition. The stock extension is well done but can be removed and replaced with a nice pad if one would like and obviously the left barrel can be opened up to anything one would want for very little money if one does not care for full choke.
Overall, a very nice English boxlock for a more than fair price. *Note this gun, although from about 1899 still retains at least 50% of its original case color! |

Completed in 1923 this feather weight of a boxlock is in very nice condition. The barrels are tight on face the bores are bright and shiny and do not show any pitting. One might call these the work horse of the British boxlocks but really that would not be fare. These guns if they were horses they would not be big Clydesdales or Percherons but well-proportioned race horses while also being known for their sturdy nature and reliability. Maybe a quarter horse would be a better comparison! *This example has at least 60% case color remaining which indicates it has seen little use in its 60-70 years of age. |

Armstrong & Co. ~ A tidy and great shooting English double Boxlocks 12 gauge |
5495 42467 |
|
A lovely English boxlock made in Newcastle-on-Tyne sometime between 1904 and 1925 The well figured stock gives the gun an appearance beyond its price point. The action still retains some of its original color. Beautiful English scroll on the action, trigger guard, tang, fences and top lever. The gun closes with a satisfying snap and the trigger pulls are sharp. It balances beautifully with 28-inch barrels, and the game rib gives a great sight picture. This will make a fantastic shooter. *The left choke is a very tight full. This can easily be opened to whatever you would like for only $85.00. Full choke may be perfect for Mr. Turkey but for upland it is a bit much. |

The Welbey & Scott 700 utilizing the classic Anson & Deeley boxlock action was made for 33 years. It was made for so long because it is having always been a winner when it came to quality, reliability, balance, and at a very good price. This example is in nice condition. It was made in 1951 and is still as tight and strong as the day it was built. This grade, the 701, features some engraving. The Model 700 virtually had none. *This gun is in excellent condition and note that it was chambered in 2 3/4". An excellent choice for your first English double. |

Good dimensions, condition, and quality and the best part in my book is the beautifully patterned Damascus barrels. They are bright and shiny on the inside with only few very minor pitting (not deep) towards the muzzle that is very hard to see. * Note all the original case color!
The gun is tight on face. I detect a very well-done and obviously strong crack repair towards the pistol grip cap if I put the gun in the sun. No big deal but like to list everything I see. A very attractive nitro Damascus gun for a very reasonable price. Apparently built about 1880, the year when the name was changed to Thomas Jackson and Son. |

McCririck & Son with lovely new barrels by Thomas Bland with 2 3/4" proof! Boxlocks 12 gauge |

Looking from the muzzle I can see some pitting in both bores about 6" from the muzzle. The wall thickness is very good there as well as a low pressure but takes it out of the collector pool and is priced by us into the shooter category which for you upland hunters make this one a bargain. *The extension could be removed and replaced with a pad for a LOP up to 14 3/4" or slightly more if one did not care for the extension. |

I have a particular fondness for these Westley Gold name guns. They are extremely well made. This one has great dimensions for many and balances and handles extremely well. The Westley records date this gun to March of 1907 and made for one George Rolleston. Gunsmith Daniel Morgan has put this gun back on face and it is now ready for another lifetime of use. Bushed firing pins and high-grade wood are both top notch features on this shotgun by this famous maker. Pay attention to the 5/8" cast off for a right-handed shooter. It seems a bit extreme, but the gun comes up pretty nice as is although it could be easily bent over a 1/4" if wanted. | |||

C.G. Bonehill ~ The Belmont "Interchangeable" ~ No cast so good for left or right handed Boxlocks 12 gauge |
4334 2494 |
|
A very nice English boxlock at a super price. There is a chip in the toe of the butt plate that is easily repairable. It has a lovely horn pistol grip cap and horn forend escutcheon. This gun has tight bores, is in proof, and locks up tight. Interesting history of C.G. Bonehill: C. G. Bonehill was an English gunmaker from Birmingham, England who lived from 1831 to 1900 1. He established his own firm in 1851 and was recorded at 33 Charlotte Street with a factory in Morville Street in 1872 1. In 1873, he moved the whole business to the Belmont Firearms Works, Belmont Row 1. C. G. Bonehill was a Guardian of The Birmingham Proof House 1. He was related to and may have been associated with O. G. Bonehill of Belmont Firearms Works also of Birmingham 2. He held 4 US patents issued in the 1880s 2. From about 1900 to 1965, the company produced ball & shot guns and combination guns, and they made the Britannia air rifle 1. They were pioneers in the mechanization of gun manufacture, making the “Belmont Interchangeable” shotguns 1. From about 1900, C G Bonehill were the main suppliers of rifles to the “Society of Miniature Rifle Clubs” 1. The Society was founded to encourage rifle shooting amongst working class men, and it was largely responsible for establishing smallbore rifle shooting as a sport in England 1. For this purpose, old .303 Martini-Enfield rifles were re-barrelled to .22 rimfire and sold at very reasonable prices 1 |

Cogswell & Harrison 12g. with nice sideplate engraving ~ Great clays gun Boxlocks 12 gauge |

Serial number records show us this shotgun was built in 1902. As you can see in the pictures the bluing on the barrels have multiple light scratches but the barrels are tight on face with nice bores. We have priced the gun to leave some room for a barrel blacking. This shotgun features a longer than normal forend which I really like as it would be excellent for clay shooting! |

A solid, tight, but considering all the handling marks in the wood, a gun that has proved itself in the field. The case color is a remarkable 85% or better and the blue more than 90%. *If one was to give this a new oil wood finish it would be a beautiful gun but why? For this price just get out and use it! *The gun is tightly choked but these can be easily opened to whatever you would want for only $80 per tube. |

Manufrance Ideal Grade 2R ~ This is the Classic French Round Action Boxlocks 16 gauge |
3557 18276 |
|
Built on a unique but 100% trigger plate action this is a gun that I have always been intrigued with. I like everything about them except for the safe which is located to the right and left of the trigger guard. It functions fine but I don't find them as ergonomic as the top safe. So, despite the safety, I still shoot, promote and get excited about these guns as they are worth having, shooting and appreciating due to their great balanced round action and features. This grade and higher feature a rising bite third fastener similar to the coveted Rigby rising third bite. The pull back lever behind the trigger guard opens the gun and is extremely ergonomic. It is out of the way and very easy to operate. |

A very nice little 16g. but with only basic engraving but great stock dimensions for many. There are some case colors remaining. The gun has been 2 3/4" nitro proofed but considering the weight I would avoid the heavy American 16g. loads as they could cause you to need new dental work.

William Powell & Son 16g. boxlock from 1880 and it still shoots great! Antique so can ship direct! Boxlocks 16 gauge |
5544 7031 |
|
This gun, while it has a fair number of handling marks and could use a new barrel black, is tight on face and shoots great. We, here at the shop, have a 7:00 AM Thursday morning clay shoot every week here on the property, and we all choose a gun or two to take out and give it a try. I chose at the last minute to take this rather tired looking old waitress to the shoot and like a great waitress, she performed perfectly and was simply a lot of fun. The gun is ready to shoot as is, but you know, it has very pretty marbled French walnut so if one were to remove the extension, replace with a nice pad, give it a new oil finish, and re-black the barrels the gun would become an elegant lady. *Remember, this we can ship direct as it is antique. |

A very classy and fast handling little 20g from pre WWII Britain. * Some history on Pollard: 905 - H. E. Pollard & Co. The latter advertised themselves as "Practical Gun Makers and Cartridge Loaders & Fishing Tackle Experts". It is not known when Herbert Pollard retired or died. |

Alex Henry of Edinburgh ~ A very nice Scottish 20g. double from @1904 Boxlocks 20 gauge |
5652 8081 |
|
I love this Scottish maker. There is a wonderful book written about him by our good friend Donald Dallas. If you would like a copy, I believe there are just a few copies left: https://donalddallas.com/books/alexander-henry-rifle-maker/ *This little 20 is in very nice condition. It balances well, has great dimensions for many, and is tight and has nice bores. The chokes are perfect for upland shooting. *The length of pull is great for a taller person but if you are shorter don't despair. A shorter pad or butt plate can be fitted to bring the gun to your LOP. We can help guide you to a gunsmith that can do this super well and in a timely manner for a fair price ( often less than $200). |

H. Hodgson Boxlock 20g ~ A very nice little 20 from England Boxlocks 20 gauge |

What a great little 20g.. It is tight and field ready. There is a little light pitting in the right barrel but nothing of consequence. This is a great price for a 20g. English double. *Note the great wall thickness on the 28" barrels and the excellent choking for upland game. Henry Hodgson was a well-established gunmaker in Ipswich in the early 1900's. |

Charles Lancaster lttle .410 top lever single with unusual cocking system ~ Antique so can ship direct Boxlocks 410 gauge |
5589 8275 |
|
When I first examined this petite little shotgun, I noted there was no tang safety. What I discovered, firing it with snap caps, is the gun cocks by pulling the trigger back and at the extreme back it fires. This eliminates the need for a safety because after the gun is fired there is no tension to fire a hammer. Basically , the gun is not cocked until you pull the trigger to fire it. * I have never seen this before! This gun is very elegant to handle. This gun dates to 1898 so can ship direct. |

I have hunted with and I guess will admit to collecting these Manufrance French trigger plate double guns for years. They still fascinate me. This great example features chopperlump barrels and the retractable in-stock sling which works perfect. The Rifled barrel is excellent and sharp. The shotgun barrel appears mirror when examined from the breech but when inspected from the muzzle I can see some light pitting in places. Only cosmetic but I want you all to know it is there. This gun is in very nice condition with much original case color remaining. I am told you can shoot shot out of the rifled barrel also so can still be used as a double barrel shotgun. |

J. D. Dougall .577 Lock-Fast patent double rifle with makers case, tools and a reference to the Prince of Wales bed chamber........... Drillings, Double Rifles, and Rifles Caliber |
|

Featuring near 90% original case color and near perfect bores this is a stunning little hammer double rifle. What a joy this would be to carry and hunt with in the field at well under 6 lbs. I have hunted with this cartridge for years and found it totally effective on everything from Moose on down. It is very similar to our 30'06 and in fact that cartridge was much copied from the 8x57. The bore on this rifle is excellent The claw mounted scope is a crystal clear Leupold scope 1x4 VARI-X IIc. *I, having had the rifle several months just detected a professionally repaired crack in the wrist. It is so well done it even fooled me even though my training and expertise is in invisible crack repair. It is extremely well done and obviously super strong, but I am lowering the price to account for this. An excellent rifle in a super easy to get caliber. I will even throw in a box of 20 new ammunition to go with it. |

The forend screw is brass which is not original but all else is very stock which I love. The rifling is strong showing little wear but there is a gray frost between. All that I see with this one, the rest is all positive. The rifle is the "Take Apart" model meaning the action and barrel can be removed from the stock without tools, basically a form of a quick take down rifle. I do know this gun will shoot super and be a joy in the woods. The Model 1903 is probably my personal favorite deer rifle ever. *See attached scan of open sight shot target shot by our gunsmith at 50 yards. Not bad! |

I love shooting old Swedish rifles and this one is really cool. 24-inch hexagonal barrel retains the vast majority of its original finish. The sights consist of a tall front blade and a rear V-notch adjustable for elevation to 200m. The Swedish crown motif is found on the top of the barrel and on the butt plate. Matching numbers found where expected on the bolt, receiver and trigger guard. A neat and easy shooting piece of Swedish rifle making history. |

BSA Martini 22 ~ A lovely take down .22 single shot in very nice condition from England ~ Think son or grandson (or daughter of course) Drillings, Double Rifles, and Rifles Caliber |
5386 59097 |
|
The Birmingham Small Arms factory made a few models of these martini action .22LRs up until 1955. They claimed they were capable of a 2-inch group at 100 yards. This one has a straight hand stock, a 24inch barrel and 3 rear leaf sights ranged for 25, 100 and 200 yards. It retains intact the original butt plate with BSA crossed guns motif. We believe that a serial number in the 59000s dates from 1939. Martini actions are great fun to shoot, and in .22 it's an inexpensive introduction. I know I listed this a few weeks ago but realized we had more pictures to share of the gun broken down. It is fun because with one screw the barrel comes off and the other screw the whole trigger group drops out for cleaning . A very slick design. A few minutes ago, (we are lucky to be rural) I took the gun out and shot it and it performed perfectly and appeared very accurate. |

Hosford and Co. Wall thickness gauge Men's Collectibles 10 gauge |
1158 |
|
This wall thickness gauge, complete with table clamping barrel vise, is the most accurate wall thickness gauge that we are aware of for the money (the next more accurate gauge is digital and costs over 2K). This gauge will measure 4 gauge through .410. It may look intimidating to use but let me assure you it is not. The secret and success of this gauge is in that the barrels are easily held suspended by the table clamped barrel vise. The gauge, once zeroed is slid over the barrel and quite easily moved back and forth while one just watches the gauge to read the actual barrel wall thickness. There is no math to do. The ingenious barrel holder allows you to easily rotate the barrels allowing you access to areas of the barrel near the ribs. On the vertical gauge this is quite difficult but on this gauge very easy. This gauge also has the feature of a finer pointed tip on the gauge allowing you to measure inside many pits. I cannot stress the value of having a quality wall thickness gauge if one is a serious collector and purchaser of high end double guns. THE FIRST GUN YOU REFUSE AS A RESULT OF USING THIS GAUGE PAYS FOR THE GAUGE MANY TIMES OVER. If you do not understand the significance of the last sentence, please reread it. We will not make any significant money selling these gauges. It is our intent to have educated buyers. It is our belief that our client’s best interests are also ours. Most all of our best clients already have this gauge but I would like to see all of our clients with one. These gauges were designed and hand built by Jon Hosford, a natural engineer, double gun lover, collector, and wing shooter (not to mention his appetite for fine red wine, scotch, and good food!)
See Jon's gauge in use and learn how to use it on youtube by typing in a search on youtube: “Hosford & Co., Shotgun barrel gauge, Part 1” or clicking this url: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jQZn4kohH4 Please contact Jon to buy: https://www.hosfordco.com/tools-measuring-1/wall-thickness-guage info@hosfordco.com 734-769-5660 |

Excellent engraving and has bushed firing pins. The large pad/extension could be removed and replaced with a standard 1" pad and have LOP of 14 1/2". *Note that this gun comes with a very nice canvas covered hard case with accoutrement's ( cleaning rod, ends, William Evans chamber brush, snap caps, and oil bottle). |

4264 43881 |

C.G. Bonehill ~ The Belmont "Interchangeable" ~ No cast so good for left or right handed Left-handed Guns 12 gauge |
|
